Our meetings are a combination of workshop, play reading, reviews, & discussion of upcoming opportunities. If you’re looking for inspiration, editorial review, constructive criticism or simply a community of those who understand the joy & pain of being a playwright… join us! By sharing your information with us here, we’ll be able to share the details of upcoming workshops and opportunities. (It’s free and we will never send you spam!)
Our mission is helping new and experienced local playwrights improve their craft through feedback from Workshop members via a review committee and at play readings and from audience at performances, while enriching the community through premiering original one-act plays.
The Bencich Playwriting Award recognizes the best new script produced by Playwrights Workshop each year.
The award is named in honor of John D. Bencich, who taught English and speech at Brevard Community College until his death in 1986.
His stories and articles were published in national magazines and journals. His only play, “Max and Charlotte”, was produced by The Playwrights Workshop in June 1986.
At that time, the Workshop established this award to uphold and reward high standards in dramatic writing.
In a typical year, Playwrights Workshop of Brevard will have 3 productions of one-act plays. The audience of each production will vote on the best. At the end of the year, the winners of the 3 productions will have a “playoff” for the Bencich Award.
